A contoured locking plate: Biomechanical evaluation of an osteosynthesis for osteoporotic ankle fractures

چکیده

Introduction Ankle fractures involving the distal fibula belong to the most common fractures. Operative treatment is indicated in unstable ankle fractures by open reduction and internal fixation with plate and screws. Especially in the elderly, the osteoporotic bone provides reduced stabilization of this fixation. Therefore, an implant providing improved mechanical stabilization could allow a more functional treatment and avoid complications as cut out of the implant. We designed an anatomic preshaped locking plate for fixation of distal fibula fractures, focussing the osteoporotic bone (Fig. 1). Biomechanical comparison was performed between the new contoured locking plate and an existing regular contoured plate. The regular contoured plate showed in a previous study a four fold increased stiffness and torsional strength in comparison to the third tube plate.

A locking contoured plate for distal fibular fractures: mechanical evaluation in an osteoporotic bone model using screws of different length.

Osteoporotic bone with poor mechanical capacity provides limited stability after fixation of ankle fractures. Stabilization with an implant providing increased fixation strength in osteoporotic bone could reduce failure rates of fixation and allow a more functional treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a locking contoured plate for fixation of distal fibular fractures in comparis...

Comparison of lateral locking plate and antiglide plate for fixation of distal fibular fractures in osteoporotic bone: a biomechanical study.

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical properties of posterolateral antiglide plating and lateral locked plating for fixation of displaced short oblique fractures of the fibula in osteoporotic bone. METHODS Short oblique fractures of the distal fibula at the level of the syndesmosis were simulated with a fibular osteotomy and ligamentous sectioning in 18 paired ...

A Pitfall in Fixation of Distal Humeral Fractures with Pre-Contoured Locking Compression Plate

Anatomically precontoured locking plates are intended to facilitate the fixation of articular fractures and particularly those associated with osteoporosis. Fractures of the distal humerus are relatively uncommon injuries where operative intervention can be exceptionally challenging. The distal humeral trochlea provides a very narrow anatomical window through which to pass a fixed-angle locking...

The Results of Internal Fixation of Proximal Humeral Osteoporotic Fractures with PHILOS Locking Plate.

BACKGROUND In the last fifty years since plate and screw osteosynthesis has been implemented in fracture treatment, osteosporotic bone fractures were observed as a special problem. Due to special histologic, anatomic, physical and biomehanic properties of osteoporotic changed bone the laws of biomechanics suggest that stable osteosynthesis for osteoporotic bone is necessary to increase the cont...

Computer representation of osteosynthesis stability in locking plates used for the treatment of osteoporotic proximal humerus fractures.

BACKGROUND Proximal humerus fractures are represented as 4-5% of all fractures, with incidence notably growing with age. Since surgical internal fixation in treatment of proximal humeral fractures is used, fractures of osteoporotic bone and choice of plate for their osteosynthesis represent particular problem. The aim of the study was to test two locking plates: Philos plate with locking screws...
